The problem with every other remote job board

Remote work exploded, and so did the platforms trying to capture that traffic. Most of them are built around the same model: scrape job listings from everywhere, charge companies for placement, and rank by whoever paid more. The candidate's experience is an afterthought because the candidate isn't the customer.

The result is predictable. You search for "senior engineer" and the first page shows:

The signal-to-noise ratio on most job boards is genuinely bad. And even after you find a real listing, you're on your own: generic resume, generic cover letter, no idea if you're even close to a fit before you spend 45 minutes on an application.

The premise behind Remotato: if you source listings directly from where companies actually post — their applicant tracking systems — you eliminate duplicates and stale data at the root. And if you add AI that's actually trained on what hiring looks like, you can give candidates a real edge instead of a template generator.

How we source listings

Remotato doesn't scrape. It connects directly to the ATS APIs that remote-first companies already use to manage their hiring: Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, and SmartRecruiters. These are the platforms where the real job data lives. When a company creates a listing in their ATS, it shows up in Remotato in real time. When they close it, it comes down.

The 139 companies in the index are vetted, not scraped — we've confirmed they are remote-first or strongly remote-friendly, and that they have a consistent hiring track record. No staffing agencies. No jobs that have been sitting open for nine months with no intent to fill. No paid placements.

Jobs are sorted chronologically. Not by relevance score, not by who paid more — by when they were posted. New jobs show up at the top. That's it.

The AI Layer
Tools That Actually Help You Get the Job
Once you find a role worth applying to, Remotato gives you five AI tools built around what actually moves applications forward. None of them are template generators.
Before You Apply
AI Match Score
Upload your resume and get a percentage fit score against any listing — with a breakdown of which skills match and which are gaps. Know your odds before you invest an hour.
Your Materials
Tailored Resume
AI rewrites your CV to match the specific job description — aligning your experience with the keywords and requirements the ATS and hiring manager are actually looking for.
Cover Letter
In 8 Seconds
Generate a specific, non-generic cover letter built around the role and your background. Not a template with your name swapped in — a real letter tied to the actual job.
Application
Smart Apply
Save your standard answers once. Smart Apply auto-fills ATS forms on submission — eliminating the 40-minute form-fill that makes applying to multiple roles exhausting.

CV Analysis — the honest audit

Before any of the above, Remotato can run a deep audit on your existing resume: structural issues, tone problems, skill gaps relative to roles you're targeting, formatting that confuses ATS parsers. It's the feedback most people only get from a career coach — and only after they've already been rejected a few times.

How pricing works

Token-based. No subscription.

Browsing and filtering is always free — no account required. Tokens are purchased when you want AI features. Entry pack: 60 tokens for $5. Tokens are valid for one year. Job searching is episodic — you shouldn't pay a monthly subscription for a tool you might use five times.

Three decisions that shaped the build

1. Direct ATS access over scraping

Scraping produces duplicates. A job posted on LinkedIn, Indeed, and a company's own site appears three times in every scraped index. Direct API access to Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, and SmartRecruiters means one authoritative source per listing — the company's actual hiring system. The data is real-time and canonical.

2. Token model over subscription

A subscription assumes steady usage. Job searching doesn't work that way — it's intense for a few weeks, then quiet for months. A subscription model charges you during the quiet months, which creates resentment for a tool you're not actively using. Tokens are consumed when you use them, valid for a year, and bought in small increments. The model matches how people actually job search.

3. Claude API for AI features

Resume tailoring and cover letters require understanding nuance — the difference between "5 years of experience" and "5 years of hands-on experience shipping products in production," or why "collaborated with cross-functional teams" is a weak signal compared to a specific outcome. Claude's comprehension of professional context produces AI output that reads like a real person wrote it, not a template engine.

What's next

The current index covers 139 companies. The roadmap expands to more ATSs and more company verticals — specifically engineering, design, and product roles at early-stage and growth-stage companies that don't have the ad budgets of the large platforms but consistently hire well.

We're also building recruiter-facing tools: outreach templates, pipeline tracking, and direct sourcing off the same index. The platform works both ways — and there's real signal on both sides of the transaction.
